Movies

Helly everyone. I hope everyone is doing well. What have i been doing since ICLP you ask? I have watched movies since I have nothing else to do until work and school starts. Here goes.

I saw Cars, Finding Nemo, Toy Story and Up. I think Cars is a kick ass Pixar movie. I think its better than Finding Nemo. I saw Finding Nemo 3 years ago and saw it again. This time I didn't think it was that funny for some reason, probably due to the father character not being that funny, plus Dory gets kinda annoying. I also saw Toy Story again, which reminded me of how awesome being a kid was. I hadn't seen it in years. Woody and Buzz are absolutely hilarious. Maybe the funniest pixar movie. I know alot of people haven't seen Cars yet. You guys need to get on that asap. Its sooo funny. Owen Wilson is ridiculous in the movie. Their making Cars 2. I'm pretty pumpled. I saw Up with Sam. It was really good, with the first 10 minutes being soo sad!

In the process of seeing Monsters, Incredibles, and Wall-E

Saw Aladdin and Mulan again. I think the secret to any great animated movie, whether its Disney or Pixar are great supporting characters. Like Genie and Mushu. What ever happened to good Disney movies? Ever since the 90's, nothing's been memorable!

Saw Kung Fu panda for the first time. I was expecting great things but its just ok. Jack Black, who I do enjoy is memorable. But the other characters aren't super funny. Why cast Angelina Jolie and Lucy Lu as voices? Their not funny people. They really didn't add anything to the movie.

Just saw Gran Torino. Good movie but incredibly racist. If you guys can withstand asian sterotypes and slurs for 2 hours, you guys should go watch it. I think Clint Eastwood gives a very moving performance.

Just saw the Godfather for the first time! So fuckin long. Its a decent movie I guess. It was just so long, I had trouble concentrating. 3 Hours! Don't know if i'm gonna watch 2 and 3.

Saw X-Men 2 again. I think its the best in the series. The first one was good but lacked that exra oomph. The third one was ok, but wasn't memorable. I think 2 has got it all. Great story, a better peformance by Hugh Jackman. Also, Halle Barry had more lines in the second one. She barely spoke in the 1st. It was impresive how the director managed to split all the time with the characters, giving everyone a decent amount of time to shine (well, maybe not cyclops) The X-Men series as a whole are much better than the Wolverine movie, which i saw by the way. It was an ok movies, nothing special but a good popcorn flick.

Also, Watchmen does a nice job of recreating the graphic novel vibe onto the big screen. If you haven't read it, you should watch the movie.

I think the best movie of the summer is Star Trek. BY FAR. I knew pretty much nothing about Star Trek when i saw it in May and it blew me away. It literally has everything. Great cast, great chemistry, exciting action, an interesting story, and great one liners (something every action movie needs). Out of all the movies I've seen in the last 6 months, Star Trek was by far my favorite. And I don't even like Star Trek. But after watching the movie, I kinda wanna learn more about it. Everyone should rent it when it comes out! Trust me you won't be disappointed. It's like a perfect summer action movie.

Also, Valyrie is a pretty interesting World War 2 movie. But only watch it if your interested in it. Other than than, I don't think people would like it. In case peopel don't know, its based on a true story about how a couple high german commanders were trying to kill Hitler (Obviously they fail)

Also saw Dogma for the first time. pretty funny. But offensive if your a religious person. It's also kinda gross.

Upcoming movies planned?? Just got Heat (1995) and I plan on watching Atonement. Just finished the book and it was really good. I heard the movie is also really good too. Bye for now!

Also, if you guys are interested, Empire Magazine did a special on the 500 greatest movies ever! Check it out if your interested.

  1. yaaaaay! kevin! welcome on the blog!!!

    1. halle berry is god awful in x-men. it's a shame she has a great agent that somehow managed to get her more lines in each movie. first one i like better b/c the other ones were pretty damn bad. the second one was the best. third one almost made cry b/c it blew all the potential from the second one.

wolverine just made me nervous. pg-13, not a lot of blood, but lots of excessive violence against women. made me nervous.

    2. though i haven't seen any of the godfathers, they say that godfather 2 is one of the best movies ever. i'd say keep watching, figure it out, and lemme know.

    3. you should read the graphic novel before watching the watchmen. alan moore looks like a looney but writes incredibly complex novels that, in the hands of awful directors with no vision, come out a big ol' mess when adapted to the big screen.

i haven't watched the watchmen movie but i kinda don't wanna see them eff it up.

i also have a crush on rorschach. he's so dark, complex, and tormented. it's great but that prolly means that imma have me a bunch of dysfunctional relationships...

  3. instead of exploring the city, you decide to be a 宅男 and watch movies?!

I really don't know what the hype was about Star Trek though because I saw it on the plane and well. . . it was all right. Then again, it was a 10 hr. flight, might've been the jet-lag

Definitely with you there on the first 10 minutes of UP. It was terribly heart-wrenching and tear-jerking.

Don't forget to enjoy the city instead of staying in your stuffy apartment watching movies. Or at least watch movies with some stuff animals. xP
